After a hard day behind the screens it is nice to sit back relax and enjoy some time off, behind the screens. ;-) Google Earth is always fun for getting to know our planet, and now, you can get to know your oceans too. Good on you Google for making our planet smaller.
There is a type of easter egg that few people know about in Google Earth. An easter egg is when programmers (usually without their employers knowledge) add a little treat for hackers and enthusiasts to find. Someone at google has been kind enough to add in a flight simulator. Whilst this is not an easter egg in its truest form (I'll tell you about one later), it is still good fun. Open up Google Earth Press “CTRL – ALT – A” you'll end up with a popup asking you to select your aircraft. You can choose an F16 or a SR22. Selecting Help will give you the list of keys you need to fly. As always, flight sims remain difficult to someone wanting a quick spin around and require some skill. With a little practice you'll be on your way. I think I'll stick to Sauerbraten. Other easter eggs are embedded in many different applications. The first was in an Atari game called Black Castle where programmer Warren Robinett linked a pixel to a room giving himself credit for creating the game, since at this stage programmers were not given much credit for their work. The popular game Diablo II has the secret cow level, it's pretty tricky to get to but offers a lot of bovine fun and is worth it. Firefox:- In the address bar in Firefox type about:robots and press enter, listen to Gort. Also, trye about:mozilla to get a quote from the book of Mozilla. OpenOffice.org Calc. Type in any cell =GAME(A2:C4;”TicTacToe”) or if you're into space invaders try =GAME(“StarWars”)
emacs:- If you're a MAC freak and in need of psycological help then help is on the horizon. Run a MAC Terminal type “emacs” hit enter, hit escape and then type “xdoctor”, you'll get an interactive dialogue with a shrink for all the assistance you need. To get out type Control+X Control+C. Hope this helps Picasa:- Teddy bears picnic. When running picasa hit CTRL+SHIRT+Y and you'll get taken over by Teddies, the teddies name is Thomas. There are plenty more Easter eggs out in the world, but that sums me up for now. Enjoy your hunting and be sure to let me know if you have any good ones! :-) |
